Photography Project 1 – Self Portait

Project 1 completed…

They say photographers don’t have pictures of themselves and that true.  I’m one of those people who prefer to be behind the camera instead of in front. The  theme of the self portrait shoot was Headliner – Mafia. The only thing that was missing was a tommy gun and I think the pictures still turned out good.

I also added some behind the scene shots of me setting up my back drop.

Photography Projects

You can take only take so many pictures of your friend and family before you start looking for new inspiration. This part of the blog will be dedicated to my attempt at cool photography projects. The 365 one seem to be very popular one among photographers but definitely not first on my list.

I’ll be attempting projects like:

  • Black and White Photography
  • A day in the life of …
  • Light Painting
  • Self Portraits
  • A-Z
  • Night Photography
  • and more..

You can also expect some tutorials along the way if you want to try out some of them.

Behind the Scenes – Lauren & Marisha

It’s a lazy Sunday afternoon and we’re driving around searching for a location for our photoshoot. I peek out the windows hoping the light drizzle would stop, its overcast and I just hope a storm does n’t break loose.  We finally ended up at  the Arboretum / Cecilia Street in Paarl. The drizzle also just about stopped and now I have new hope for our shoot today.

The last thing I expected pulling up was seeing another photoshoot in progress. There were photographers everywhere. I think I spotted 6 photoshoots in progress.  I felt intimidated getting out of my car. These guys were geared up with  expensive equipment and clearly pro’s and me… just armed with my 18-55mm Canon Kit lens…..

After finding a free spot I soon realised how perfect the day was for shooting. The overcast day and shade was perfect lighting for shooting and to top it all off the light drizzle made the environment POP with colour.  The pictures turned out great and my favorite shoot to date.

Photographing Children

This was my first attempt at photographing chidren. Lets just say it was no walk in the park. It’s like they’re programmed to do the exact opposite of what you want them to do and required a lot of patients. I soon realised that the trick was not to constantly tell them what to do but to let them be what they do best, be a kid and somewhere along the line you will chapter there BIG spirits.
